SECURITY ALERTS

Warning of Phishing attack that appears to be from the FDIC
February 16, 2012

We want you to know of a phishing attack where the perpetrator claims to be the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). There are several known versions of this attack, although the content focuses on getting the receiver to take action. Here are two examples: “Urgent! You must install a new security version!” or “Your transaction abilities were placed on hold...” Receivers are instructed to click on a link and take some type of action, such as installing software of providing information. While the links in the emails look authentic, they are not. The FDIC would not contact you in this manner. This is not a security breach from the FDIC. If you receive an email like this be on alert that it is a scam attempting to gather personal information to commit fraud and possibly identity theft. Please do not follow the instructions. Instead, immediately delete the message.
